|
|
Hey Guys I am wondering what engine to stick into my 1982 924 Turbo. The 931 is a good solid engine I know, but I want something a little bit more beefy. I would like to keep it Porsche, but I don't want to do any major modifications to the engine compartment in order to make this engine fit. I was wondering about a little Japanese engine, bit I don't know. If you guys know that any 911 or any other beefier engines than the 1982 1924 Turbo that would fit, please private message me or post a reply.
Thanks a bunch
John |

I suggest you do a search, and then you'll find out that the 2.0 block is one of the strongest and can deal with 300hp and more. Do a total overhaul plus new pistons (flat-tops) add an intercooler and you have strong, powerful and reliable engine. _________________ '83 924 2.6 16v Turbo, 470hp

GT32 71mm 52 trim .52a/r (use a #6)
I don't usually post turbo selections
This map is perfectly suited for the 931 - the compressor is for 420 HP.
The 924S/944 Motronic may be used (fully tuneable)
Weber style TB's with a rail.
All the Motronic sensors work beautifully.
By the way - you will find that early turbo production motors (across the board - Japanese, German, etc.) were more stoudtly built initially - to account for a certain degree of uncertainty. This is the reason that the 931 has piston oil squirters, and my 951 does not, for example. _________________ 951 566/485 HP/TQ at the wheels - pump gas

Hey - I have a 924S .
And I am going to get a 931 soon and get 375 RWHP out of it on stock block. Then I am going to tell everyone what I used because John doesn't sell 931 stuff!
8 valve man!! Fill em up fast and get out of that corner!! 931 is not a 200 HP car - it is a 400 HP car.
I will report immediately when I have the 931 chip for the 944 Bosch DME in my hands - won't be long.
It will be tuned with SMT6 and Zeitronix - works well.
Then I am going to LRP and bitch-slap a few Evos into the weeds with my 2400 pound 924....muhahahahah _________________ 951 566/485 HP/TQ at the wheels - pump gas

Raceboy - before you get the triple K - have a look at the Garret map of the compressor above........ _________________ 951 566/485 HP/TQ at the wheels - pump gas

That's okay - still good for 375 RWHP.
You'll be the first to know about it, my man. _________________ 951 566/485 HP/TQ at the wheels - pump gas

Porsche's already done it -well, at least come close.
Not that I mean it in a bad way! If you can tell us how to get 375rwhp I'm all for it!
I fear it may require major modifications, if not to the bottom end, then elsewhere. And it's gonna cost MEGA-$$$'s! _________________ '80 924 Turbo |

Using the 924S EFI on a 931, BRILLANT!
Can't wait for the instructions, the chip, and a fuel rail! |

I already have it, to be more specific, a hybrid using 931 K26/6 hotside and K28 compressor (which has K29 comp.wheel btw).
As for oil squirters on 931. Con rods have little holes pointing to the bottom of the piston, but haven't seen them squirting directly to piston (I wonder why ), I think that they're for lubricating wrist pin.
And Khal, don't be so pessimistic _________________ '83 924 2.6 16v Turbo, 470hp

Moi, pessimistic? Never...
Nah, it's not that I doubt you can get near 400hp out of a toofah Turbo. I know it's possible, Porsche did it.
And good luck to anyone who can/does do it. I'm just jealous!
Still, sometimes I wish someone would come up with a simple, easy to fit intercooler kit or whatever that gave a reasonable boost in horsepower, y'know? Something that doesn't need hours, days, weeks of thinking and re-thinking, custom fabrication of parts and mounts that are out of the realms of possiblities for people like me.
I mean, if I had a WRX, I could walk into the local APS dealer and buy cheap upgrade that'd give me a gazillion more horsepower.
After 25 years I still can't buy a bolt-in intercooler for my toofah... _________________ '80 924 Turbo |
