Well, I love my 924.. and if it wasn't for some small stuff that I would rather not fix Id keep it...
the thing that bugs me the most is the paint on my car, not the color I love the maraschino cherry red.. but it has some blemishes in it... my car is worth around 4,000-5,000 about... but a paint job is about 4,000 to 5,000 on its own.... since I am a highschooler I always want something that goes fast, a 924 is about at the low end of what goes fast, its a great car, but mines an auto.... I can drive a stick though, (yes even a nasty 914 with its sloppy transmission).

So heres the question! what do I do??
931? well, my dad has given me a hard time about shopping for these, saying the turbos aren't reliable, my dad isn't exactly a car expert so I don't trust him...
944 turbo? hmmm
928? I could buy a lower end 928 with the full V8 power... 8 grand can at least get me one that I can work on... a little bit...

questions...
Would I be disappointed with the 931? power wise? and is it that big of a difference vs my 924s?
944 turbo, same thing... I Personally... don't like the flares, (Sorry!) I love the styling of a 924.. so Id rather kind of go with the 931...
928... again I've heard stuff like its EXTREMELY expensive to work on, you have to work around the large motor a lot and stuff.

Factors to take in: I have 2 Porsche only salvage yard's within 10 miles of my house... these places mostly cover 924,944,928,911/912 parts so parts are EASY For me to get... so i dont have to worry about which car i buy and what kinda parts ill need eventualy..

So let me get your opinions... Thanks guys!

edit: one question about the 928... why are most of them automatic?

I would go for the 928 if u can afford it and are mechanically inclined. They dont have alot of spare room under the hood. But very nice powerful cars. The reason i am told y they are 90% autos is that they were more of a luxury porsche. But i could be told wrong

ok from a person who has both 924 and 928 i would go with the 928. i love to just zip around in the 24 though. and yes you are right about the automatic situation. they were a more of a luxury based car so the tended to have autos in them. i have a 84 928 and i love it. even though it has 220k miles on it. still runs like a champ. i plan to rebuild the engine this fall and go with performance parts and boost power up to 320-350 hp hopefully. the 28s though are a little sluggish on acceleration but once your up around 55-65 and want to jump up to 110 its right there. they are tight to work on in the engien bay and also you have to be carfull with the timing belt jsut like the 944s. except with this one you break a belt its prolly gonna cost about 5 grand to have it fixed. i say drive a 928 and see for yourself. my vote is for the 928 good luck though

isn't the NA 924 turbo slower than the 924s.

I don't know anything about the 928 but I heard its really hard to work on and parts prices are more expensive than the 944/ 911 I think.

If you get one you should probably get one in mint condition or else you'll probably be fixing it more than driving.

the NA 924 turbo? its either an NA or a turbo, not an NA turbo. if you have to have something that is auto, it sounds like you dont, but if you do, i would go with the 928. the 928 is a very powerful car, and even though it takes a lot to fix it and the costs of running it are higher than that of a 924, it is a fun car. not to mention stylish. the 944s in madison are way over priced; i dont know if the same goes in cali. but here a dealer wanted 7,900 for a 84 944 with over 100k on it.

lucky you on the porsche only junkyards. the only junk yard around me is one that charges 100 dollars for a used hood! 50 dollars for a used antenna, and no returns remember, and 30 dollars for a spare tire!
