No offense but you start with a 924GTS engine and go from there.

I think you will spend a lot of money with this project but I am not one to stop you. A starting budget of 5K US would help.

I will say it's cheaper to just buy the GTS motor. The time you will spend tracking down parts and people and than the cost of the parts, one by one??? WOW! Also, I bet a stock GTS motor will be more reliable than a "make shift" motor.

I'm not trying to make fun here, but there's no need to waste money.

If you go ahead with it, I'll be standing in line to see it!

Think it through first please!

Have fun!

Step One: Go back to 1981

Step Two: Call the dealer.

1981 was the last time the engine or any of the parts for it were readily available (and I'm using "readily available" pretty loosely).

In other words, if you want a GTS engine, you're going to be casting the parts yourself as they aren't available period. This is barring the one-in-a-billion chance that someone somewhere has some of the bits sitting on a shelf.

If you want GTS performance you could crate up your engine, send it to someone like Powerhaus along with a check for $10-20k. I'm sure they could come up with something.

For what it's worth, the Turbo engine itself has a lot of room to move, from a performance point of view.

I notice your avatar is a Carrera GT. Are you attempting to make a complete replica?

If not, and you're just after more performance, there's a lot you can do to the Turbo engine.

Certainly first and foremost would be to add a boost controller. These Turbo engines appear to be able to reliably handle about 50% more than factory boost.

Secondly, add an intercooler. There are dozens, if not hundreds, of threads on this 'board describing ideas and what people have actually done. Seems best not to try to imitate the factory intercooler mounting.

From there, well, the sky (or your budget ) is the limit...

How about this:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=4556749492&category=6431

That would be a good start at getting to the GTR...though I think most people here would be in tears if you basterdized it into a GTS.

If you really want a GTR or GTS buy one. Look around the internet, find one, get their number and then make an appointment to vist them in person. Those cars are pretty cheap when you compare them to new Porsches.

I bought a new Grand Am for that price for crying out loud!

If I was really ballsey I would fly to where ever the best CGT is, buy it and ship it home.

I can't see you making one with out spending MORE money than actually buying one.

Look at our cars, they are worth more part by part than they are as a whole unit. Look at the 2000 Porsche's they are worth more in pieces than as a whole.

You will save money, time, frustration and sanity if youjust buy a GTR or GTS that is original and ready to drive.

Again, I'm not trying to be mean but I have looked and building your own pars or having them made will cost 10x the price they should, just because getting anything built from scratch is expensive. You will save money by buying an original car on a lot, or better yet at a race track {So you know it's road ready and in use}.

Again, very good luck to you.

Neil

Odd thing is that you can actually buy GT parts including a body shell, D prod engines ( in the 65K range) and a bunch of stuff period, the cost is the only problem.

Since you are in europe, sourcing parts may not be as hard but it will still be costly.

I've seen GTS and GTR parts on ebay. And now of several individuals who have store room sfull of this junk. The factory several years ago dumped most of it.

You just might be able to fing a GTS engine, there have been GTRs around.

i think the parts aren't that expensive my dad has got a porsche garage and he is specialised in 944 and 968 and a bit 924 sow the knowleg and lot of parts i have the only thing is the engine and the body parts (those what i want because i can get all the parts of a gt) my dad was thinking to use a 924 s chasis (it has different brakes at the back so i don't have to mount on a 944 axel!!) and i can buy a 924 turbo engine with drive shaft and gearbox for 350 euro's. and then tune that engine (it is the 177 hp instead of the 170hp!!!!) so i hope to get lot's of hp. that is why i opend this topic. and if some one could help me. and know where i can find those special body parts that would be fine

Quite simply, there are parts that you are not going to be able to source. Talk to a reputable engine builder, such as Paeco, and tell them your goals. If you want to get your motor to a reliable 275bhp such as GTS clubsport sport, you'll need an intercooler, and a different fuel injection system most likely. Programmable EFI is getting pretty cheap these days, and with systems like Megasquirt you can have it running for less than $500.

There is a member on the board here that goes by the name of Racing, he is from Sweden I think, and he has done a fair bit of work on his 924 turbo engine. I'd talk to him as well, and ask him what he's done and how well it runs, etc.
