If it was blue/white I'd have said it goes to the temp. sensor which is under those 2 pipes at the back of the head. What year car..? And where in NZ are you..? _________________ '82 924 NA Euro (hers)

There is a connector there and it is a real PITA to find.
I knocked it off once myself and is difficult to see and refit. _________________ Porsche 924 1984 (UK import) NA

My car is 81" euro 924na ,and im currently in Levin, Manawatu.
cable colour is blue w/yellow stripe and i traced it right back to the temp gauge and hope its possible to refit without removing anything. A more indepth note on were to refit would be great.
ive put my hands everywere there and cant feel anything around the temp sensor yet! |

Yes, just checked Haynes. It does show blue/yellow for that wire and the '81/82 year..it looks like a pain to reach alright. _________________ '82 924 NA Euro (hers)

There's what Porsche call a 'flange' bolted right on the back of the cylinder head, right underneath the triangular distributer gear housing.
It's basically a simple casting with a stub pipe which connects to one of the small hoses you can see, and threaded holes for the thermo-time switch and the temp sender. It's almost impossible to actually see, let alone reach.
To make matters worse, the temp sender is set between the larger thermo-time switch and the stub pipe. If you can't get your fingers in there (persevere!), you might have to remove the bolts from the engine mounts and jack the block up to give yourself more room. I've never tried this and I hope I never have to!
I'm sorry if this doesn't sound very positive but, as Ozzie points out, it couldn't really be in a worse place. I'll try to dig out a reference to a photo of the back of an engine to give some idea of what to look (i.e. feel!) for. _________________ 1985 Porsche 924 'Lux', Kalahari Beige (my ex)

Last time I replaced my temp censor I did it from underneath.....was using a lift though. Ramps may give you enough room though.

By leaning over the MC and looking down between the two hoses I could just see the brass cap the connector goes onto. This disappeared as soon as I put my hand in the way, felt around, fitted the wire and could see it had fitted on when I pulled my hand out. _________________ Porsche 924 1984 (UK import) NA

| alright...leaning over drivers side (R/H drive) I can get my left hand round underneath by steering shaft and still cant feel any male connector anywhere. Ive checked the temp sensor photo you left me Ozzie (thanks!) where the arrow points, looks like a bit I can see (a copper nut bout 10mm, with what looks like a small ceramic spacer then a nipple that looks like a litte yo-yo this just sticks out with no plug connections on it. im still quite confused and have spent a number of hours on this, and some more advice would be really cool |

The male connection you should be looking for is just a round piece on the end of the sensor that looks like the head of a nail. The female spade connector slips onto it. _________________ "..it's made in Germany. You know the Germans always make good stuff."

It is not a spade - flat tongue type terminal.
It is round and flat like a flat head nail- as Smoothie said. _________________ Porsche 924 1984 (UK import) NA
