|
|
So guys, I have an 82 turbo and want to freshen up the suspension on it. I use it as a daily driver and just like to upgrade to a more crisp handling. Not planning on racing it but do appreciate driving it hard on the highway. Any thoughts on what to replace and with what brands. Looking for direct replacement parts. Looking to take your advice and buy the parts.
Thanks! _________________ 82 924 Turbo

| I really like my set up although it would probably be too much for everyday use (although you ca go much stiffer). I have Koni sports Shocks and Struts, 200lb springs, stock rear torsion bars, Stock 23mm front sway bar, and a 18mm 944 turbo rear sway bar. I also replaced my bushings with urethane items. The ride is very firm especially in the city but well worth the trade off when you get the car out on the roads it should be driven on! |

www.paragon-products.com
Polyurethane bushings also help, or at the very least new rubber bushings.
The setup 81Turbo has described is a great street setup, still quite liveable for daily use. If you can't find a used 944 Turbo rear sway bar, the 968 M030 bar that paragon has is the way to go. It's a bit stiffer than the 944 turbo bar, but is also adjustable. _________________ '81 931 in various states of assembly |

Hi Vince:
Question; I would have thought you might get some understeer with the 240 front springs and 23mm front antisway with only the 18mm rear anti to compensate?
Although, if I remember correctly you do not track the turbo? Might not show up so much on the road.
Thanks
John
PS: Blew a rear main and am doing the bottom end 'in place'. How did you like the Shenandoah? _________________ John

No track for the turbo. Yes, it does feel a little funny but on the street it is fine. _________________ "Never let them see you sweat"

I'm running a pretty similar setup to 81turbo- 200# front springs, stock rear torsion bars, the 19mm adjustable 968 rear swaybar, the stock 23mm front bar, new rubber bushings just about everywhere. I was running Koni's at the corners, but am switching them out for HD Bilsteins (just picked them up).
With the Koni's it could be harsh in the pothole-laden city, but not too bad, and the increase in performance more than makes up for it. Anything more than this and I think the drivability suffers more than the performance increases- for a street car at least.
