hi guys,
i'm in the process of collecting all the right parts. a nice set of phonedialrims has come up. they're from a 944s. ET 52.3 15 inch 7j. from searching the board I'm pretty sure they'd fit a 1984 924 NA. come anyone please confirm this.
thanks |

The widest wheel that Porsche specs for the front of the car is either the 6 X 15 or 6 X 16 wheels with 52.3 offset/backset.
Some people are using 7 X 15 or 7 X 16, but they will rub somewhere at full steering lock (strut, spring, swaybar, and/or fender lip) and/or full suspension travel.
In the rear the standard wheel is the 6 X 15 with 6 X 16, 7 X 15 or 7 X 16 wheels optional. When using 7 inch wheels (15 or 16), there is no clearance for tire chains.
Note that many people have specific applications in mind that would allow wider wheels or tires, or have modified their cars to be able to fit wider wheel and/or tires with some clearance issues.
You should also note that the wider wheels and tires weigh significantly more than the standard parts, and the overall performance of the car in some categories may actually decrease with wider / heavier wheels and tires mounted, since the car is already performance limited because of the low hp output of the engine.
For stock cars and street applications/uses, and bodywork, 6s are the widest in the front and 7s in the rear without limitations. |

thanks for your reply gohim
since the guy was practically giving them away I bought the set of rims. if I can't get the front rims to work with my car I'll look out for 2 15x6 wheels. for now I have some nice toyo tires 205/60 with plenty of thread on them on my old 15x6 4 lug rims. can you see any problems fitting these relatively narrow tires to the wider rims? |

205s are kinda narrow for 7" rims.
Besides, I have found out that hard way that if you don't wear your tires out before that start cracking, many/most reputatble tire shops will not remount them for you on other rims.
Where are you, and hat sort of shape are they supposed to be in?
If you are interested, I may be willing to trade you (2) 6 X 15 dials from one of my cars, for (2) of your 7 X 15 dials. You probably haven't gotten the other wheels yet, so, I know you haven't decided what to do yet. The metal on your wheels have to be in perfect condition, as is the finish on the 2 1/2 sets of wheels that I have ((1) set of four 6 X 15 powdered coated original factory silver, (1) set of original wheels in excellent original condition on my 924S, and (2) wheels (1) pair factory new, never been mounted. The paint is not as critical, if it's in perfect, I wouldn't complain, but if the wheels turned out to be good, with the normal/typical bad paint, I could always get them powder coated to match my set of 6 X 15 powdered coated wheels (powder coat does not really fade, so all I would have to do is go across the street to the shop that coated my wheels before.
Let me know when your wheels arrive, how they look, and what you decide to do. |

the tires mentioned I bought them new about 6 months ago. that's the reason I'd like to get them mounted on my new 15x7s.
I picked up the rims yesterday. they're in great shape. original finish ever so slightly yellowing. few superficial scratches. the guy must have been a very carefull driver since they were on his daily driver.
thanks for the offer to swap wheels, but I'm located in europe. (the Netherlands). Never shipped anything this big stateside. probably too expensive.
i'm inclined to give the 7s a try. the front fenders were factory rolled, so maybe I could get by without rubbing. |

| Yeah, you're right. Shipping to Europe in VERY EXPENSIVE. Sounds like you got a good deal on the wheels. |
