Hey everyone!!

I just wanted to say Hi, and introduce myself. Although I sold my 924 several years ago, I decided to register here. I have been watching for a while, and you all seem like a nice bunch of people. The 924 started my p-car addiction. I currently have a well-modded 951 that I just can not stop spending money on, and there is the sub 30k mile SC that my mom purchased brand new, which will be in my family forever I'm sure. I am a regular over on rennlist, and although I have met a ton of great people there, not everyone seems to be as open minded as I have seen here.

Funny story, I actually got a phone call about someone in my small home town who was looking to buy my old 924 from the guy that currently has it. They wanted more information on it. I sold it when it started knocking like crazy, after all the work and money I put into the car, I just gave up after that. I guess the guy I sold it to replaced the bearing, but *pinched* it when reinstalling it. (He did this through the oil pan, with the engine still in the car, as I was told.) I don't know a damn thing about bottom ends, but after he did that, the car would not even crank. Not once. So, he started pulling the engine to send it to a vocational school (free labor) for a rebuild, but never got the whole thing out. So the car is in peices, and this guy wants $1k for it as it sits. Too much if you ask me, but the guy is the local Porsche/BMW/MB mechanic, and he will not sell anything unless he gets what he wants. At the moment he has a ton of stuff sitting at his place that he will never find the time to toy with. Anyways, I was thinking about buying it back and fixing it. Just so much sentimental value!!

Phew, that was kind of long! If you made it all the way through, give yourself a pat on the back! lol

Welcome, Ted.

If the guy who has your Porsche makes his living fixing German cars and does that to them he deserves to starve!

Seriously, buy it back, show him how iit's done. There's nothing too tricky about bottom end work. Just make sure he hasn't ruined something down there.

Yeah, it's tough to argue with sentimental value. Is the rest of the car in good shape? Body? Interior? If so, why not go for it. $1000 is probably what you spend a week in gas and back tires for your 951...

What an idiot... I've inspected and replaced the bearings from the oil pan numerous times. I agree with Mike. I mean hey, it's not rocket science, just takes cleanliness and a logical approach, it's easy enough to do.

HAHA, that is really the way I am looking at it. I have spent probably 8k that in performance mods for the 951, and yes I have have spent MORE than that on tires. When I look at it like that, it seems like more of a deal. The car needs some other work. The body is great, paint is still shiny (repainted 12 years ago, but done right), interior needs some work. It had the b&w checker pattern, and the front seats will need recovered, and the dash is cracked up. We also had a start issue that NO-ONE could ever figure out. Took it to several places, and changed a lot of parts, never helped. If the cars engine was cold, it would start up no problem. It would run great all day long. If you turned it off, and tried to start it right after, or 5-10 minutes later, it would also start right up. However, if you waited 15-minutes or so, then the car would not start for 2 hours or more. In that time period you could crank it until the battery died, and it would not even fire. This is what confuses me: If you were to "pop-start" the car by getting it rolling fast enough, or towing it and popping the clutch; it would start right up!

That's a classic hot-start problem, easy enough to diagnose and fix. Usually caused by a loss of pressure in the fuel system; either the injectors or the fuel pump check valve are the cause of the leak, leaking fuel into the intake or back into the tank. No biggie.

Hey 924RACR, I have seen you over on the list. I hope I will be seeing you at 944fest. I know you said you were up in the air, and have to get your turbo rebuilt, etc. Where are you in MI? Anywhere near Gingerman? It's one of my favorite tracks (hehe, becuase there is nothing to hit;) )

LOL... yes, I'm in the Detroit suburbs, but it's not too close to G-man - about 2.5hrs away. My home/closest track is Waterford, which is far more fun than G-man - tighter, more technical, and much more penalty if you go off.
