I'm looking to get new exhaust for my car. Thing is I've called about a dozen shops and none of them bend 3" exhaust pipe. The one place that did say they could do it, will only do it from the cat back. Does it pay to have them replace the exhaust from the cat back? I'd like it from at least the downpipe.
Couple questions.. Will it affect performance if I have the wastegate J pipe welded into just the 3" pipe instead of the cat?
*side note*
Also is it bad when your exhaust shoots flames? I was infront of my buddy on the way home this afternoon and I accelorated around a corner and shifted into second and he said I shot about a 4 ft flame out the back. Could this be because the seal on my chargetube/throttle body has a crack in it, and lets a little air in/out? _________________ [This Space For Rent] |

you would want to replace the cat with a 3" section, and then you would have a piece made that welds into that piece of pipe for the wastegate exit pipe, and then 3" the rest of the way,
as for the flame, just unburnt fuel in the exhaust system getting burnt when it gets the extra oxygen of the air, I wouldnt worry about it. _________________ 3 928s, |

| It probably means your decel valve is inop and you are running rich. |

Is there a decel valve on the 931's?
I know the 930 guys get some pretty nice flame shows. I saw 962's at Lime Rock shoot some really nice flames while downshifting into the first turn after the long back straight. Yeah, it's pretty cool
PS- if you do change to a 3" pipe, do us all a favor and pop the car on the dyno for a before and after run. I'd love to see the difference. I'm guessing you'll spool up a little quicker and gain a little peak hp.

Try these two. It is the round sort of pancake shaped device slightly below and to the right of the blue cold-start injector.

As an alternative to a stock exhaust try a Warlock muffler. It comes in the traditional style but with a twist. It has a plate that can be remove to allow straight through movement of the exhaust gases. It may come in 3in size. I plan on buying one with the next day or two.
If you do not want the straight through usage put the plate back on and the muffler acts as it should. _________________ "Never let them see you sweat"

Ive been frantically looking and haven't found much yet, the guy that I was told could do it, I haven't been able to get a hold of them, Im checking a few places back home now.
It will be dyno'ed but probably not before or after as I was wanting this exhaust work done by June 3.
FWIW, I took my car to the scale today.. 1/2 tank of gas, no spare tire, and a big ole piece of partical board in the hatch. It weighed 2760 w/o me.. _________________ [This Space For Rent] |

does anyone a warlock muffler? Is it too loud with the plate on?
also, anyone know if there is a chrome or polished one (you can see our mufflers you know)? _________________ 1987 924S Guards Red

The warlock is a turbo muffler isn't it? I wouldn't really recommend one for a 931 as with the plate in, they're going to be somewhat restrictive, and with the plate out they'll be too loud to use for anything except track use. You might as well just get a cheapie turbo muffler and take it off for track days, for all of the hassle. It'd be lighter that way too
For your exhaust options, I'd say look into a 951 exhaust setup. It's basically the same fitment, although I believe there may be differences where the downpipe bolts up. In order to get the best performance, you'd want a 3" downpipe anyways. Get a 951 3" catback, and see if you can find a hotrodder in your area who can make a downpipe. If not, a decent exhaust/muffler shop should be competent enough to modify the stock downpipe or the aftermarket catback for fitment.
The alternative would be to buy a MIG welder and get your feet wet. It's not all that hard, just ask Lizard
Fabricating an exhaust system isn't rocket science, especially not for a turbocharged application. You can buy mandrel bent pieces, and then just chop and weld as needed. _________________ '81 931 in various states of assembly |

Okay, I'm In The Process Of Fabricating New Stainless Exhausts For All Of My Cars As I Finally Have Some Extra Time On My Hands. I Just Finished A 2.5" Stainless Exhaust For My Wifes Turbocharged Forester XT And I'm In The Middle Of A 2.5" Stainless System For My Supercharged Civic Wagon. A Turbo Back 3" Stainless System Is Next For The Euro 931 And That Will Be A Very, Very Wild System. I Don't Know What You Are Looking To Spend As The Systems That I Make Are Very Expensive But Engineered Utilizing The Best Possible Materials Available. If You Are Indeed Interested Then Just Shoot Me An E-Mail - SoyRacer@Yahoo.com
