Hey all,

Bought a 3 spoke steering wheel ("in excellent condition") off of e-bay. It is in excellent condition I guess but I expected it to be covered in leather. It's textured hard plastic. It is in great shape and does not appear at all as if the leather or whatever was suppose to cover it was removed. The rim of the wheel is as thick as the 2-spoke currently on the car which is covered in leather.

To be fair I guess ripped off is too harsh. It was not advertised as leather covered. I did "ask the seller a question" as to the conditon of the leather and stitching. However it was close to the end of the auction and I was impatient so I placed my bid anyway without receiving a reply.

So the question is: Is hard plastic correct?

Also - I bought it because I thought the diameter was smaller than the 2-spoke. It may be a little smaller but not much at all (1/4 to 1/2 in.)

I know, shame on me twice! Should have waited for the reply; should have researched the diameter.

I have a couple of three spoke wheels and yes they are minus the leather.
Completely usealbe. You can buy a cover and carefully put it on. The 944 [4spoke]has leather on it but it is worn.

It's a bummer, but it doesn't sound the seller was at all trying to mislead you. There are lots of permutations of the steering wheel. As you now know ( ) the 2/3/4 spoke wheels all had an option to be leather wrapped. The 4-spoke wheels come in a regular diameter, and also a "sport" which is smaller. There could be varieties of diameter for the 3-spoke too. Not sure. In hindsight, you should have asked the seller to measure the diameter and ask whether it was leather wrapped or not.

Still, the 3-spoke is definitely an upgrade over the early 2-spoke wheels. (I like my leather sport 4-spoke wheel the best though!).

It happens sometime on e-bay where you get not just what
you thought .... all misinterpretation in what you were thinking
and what it was. Vince seems to have an idea danskins make
a colored leather stitch kit. do a search on leather
steering wheel covers.

Hey Vince, do you have a black 3 spoker? Is that a direct drop in replacement?

Yes, the one I have came off the turbo. I also have a brand new MOMO Corsa steering wheel leather covered for $160 still in the original box. I intended to put it on the track car but with track rubber it is easier to steer with the stock 2 spoke. It is larger. The MOMO is a 380mm and looks great on my other cars. All my cars have a MOMO except the track car. I think the 3 spoke is leather covered. Interested? I will look it up.
How is the son and wife Diesel?
Are you going to the Watkins Glen Porsche races in June> The weekend of the 4th.
If anyone is looking at a MOMO Corsa wheel as I have they cost $260 plus freight.

Hey Vince, wife and son are good, he's almost taller than I am right now. I'm not going to be able to make it to the races, no time. If the 3 spoke steering wheel is a direct replacement on my existing steering column then I am interested.
