Awesome. Thanks for all the help guys. I'm looking at getting either getting a 924S or a 944 Turbo. *sigh* I'm gonna push to find a 944 turbo (for under 7k) this summer. If I can't find one by August, I'll just stick with the 924S

924guy, Could you provide me with the exact (or approximately exact, if that makes sense ) differences between the 1987 924S model and the 1988 924S model? I've looked it up online and I can't find statistics on a 1988 924S. I woulda just assumed that the 1988 model was no different from the 1987...

What would be the average and top dollar on a 944 Turbo? If you guys know anyone with a nice 924S or 944 Turbo fs nearby North Carolina, please let me know. I'm DEFINATELY interested ^_^

Thanks again guys...

Awesome... thanks 924guy!

I've spotted a 1988 Porsche 944S. Guy is asking 6,950 (neg.) AC is not working, he's thinking its the condenser. I dunno. 180 hp sounds tempting >_> he's dones some recent work done on the car. New Timing Belts & Waterpump, No Sun Damage or Dash Cracking. just under 80k miles. only owner of the car. I'll probably check it out later this summer...

Here's a link to a '89 944 I saw online...

http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.jsp?car_id=179110981&dealer_id=56037901&car_year=1989&make=POR&distance=300&lang=en&max_price=7700&model=&end_year=2006&min_price=1&certified=&address=27606&search_type=both&advanced=&start_year=1981&isp=y&cardist=21

Any opinions on it? He's about 25 miles away from me, so I DEFINATELY plan on taking a look at it (if that ad hasn't expired yet and he hasn't sold it already)

*sigh* looking for the perfect porsche is so hard :-/ I've narrowed it down to a 1988 924s (as suggested by a really cool dude ), 944S2, or 944 Turbo. Let me know if anything comes by you guys. I've already hit almost every website advertising a 924S/944S2/944T for sale. Haven't found anything within my 7,500 spending budget that's in pristine condition... (can I even realistically buy a really good, recently serviced 944T for under 7,500???)

As most people find out, some too late, the purchase price of the car is not as significant as the money needed to keep up with the maintanence on what ever car you decide on. If your ceiling is $7500, be sure you can afford to have the service done, especially on the 944S and 951 models. Even if the car has just been serviced and the records reflect that, you're going to be soon spending a few bucks on checking the belt and having it adjusted. Then in a few short months/miles, you're looking at the whole front end service.

Like GoHim says, start saving money right after the purchase for the service needed to keep it in good shape.

yeah, i completely understand. LIke every 2,500 miles, check tentioners. and every 30k miles, get the front end serviced right? About how much (at most on the most expensive car) would it cost to get the tentioners checked and stuff every 2,500 miles?

I was thinking about saving and getting the "special tool" myself. I want to learn how to do my own work on this car. And I mean, after I use the tool once, Its paid for itself. SO yeah...

*sigh* can't wait till i make the purchase in august!

There are a few cheaper options to the expensive porsche tensioning tool. One is twanging the timing belt and recording the sound it makes. You can match the frequency with the recorded belt of a properly tensioned engine just like tuning a guitar. I know the 928 guys (search rennlist) have used this method effectivly. There are also some copy tools out there.
