My car has been parked for some time now and it idles too high.
there is barely any gas in the tank reads zero and it idles close to 2000 rpm or over 2000 rpm
it used to idle around 1100-1200 rpm still high but now its way too high.
could it be due to the car not been driven for so long and barely any gas in the tank? _________________ 78 924 sold.

You could have a look to see if your auxillary air valve is getting power when the engine is on and hence closing, or you could put 12 across it and see if it closes if you took it out i guess. I wonder if the cold start valve could cause it if it was always on, it should only have voltage across it with ignition in 'start' position. I doubt it is going to be due to low fuel.

can't I just adjust the idle speed. hanyes says you turn the screw on the throtle body to adjust it. I'm not really sure which screw. _________________ 78 924 sold.

I really doubt it, that should not be the reason it is idling high, there must be something else for it to change from 1100 to 3000. I think you may find out tomorrow! _________________ 1983 - 924 (185K miles) - not mint

tim had stated that his CO mix was high and JUST under the limit for aircare, so when I went there today I leaned the mix by about 1/4 turn and that should fix the problem, I forgot how nice the flowmaster sounded on these cars. _________________ 3 928s, |

I'm looking for a new muffler. Was it the 60 series? _________________ 1978 924 95 mile daily driver.

I now have developed this high idle about 2000 rpm...what could cause this and whts the best way to go about correcting it?
Thanks Chris. _________________ 1981 924 NA (Restoring mode)

my idle was at 2000 also I think you just adjust the screw on the throttle body. _________________ 78 924 sold.

ok I made a mistake, I observed the following...when I 1st start my car it idles at about a 1000rpm after the car warms up my idle increase to about 1500rpm. I tried that throttle body screw its all the way in ...if I back it out it increases the idle. .. All this began when I replaced all my vaccum lines ..any corelation with this perhaps? Is there another way to adjust the idle speed? I saw something about disconecting the idle controll plug and bridging it. then adjusting the idle then plugging in the idle controll plug back in....The idle adjust is that the screw on the throttle body as ur facing the engine?
Thanks.

I bet your timing is off after the new vacuum lines. _________________ 1978 924 95 mile daily driver.

Your talking about the ignition timing right ? via the rotor/distriibutor?..ok I have the specs for the timing..to check/adjust this is a timing light mandatory?
Thanks Chris. _________________ 1981 924 NA (Restoring mode)

Ok everything I have read says the idle has to be adjusted before checking the timing? How is the idle adjusted ?? haynes is kind of vague What I can make out is the EIS module has to be unpluged then the idle speed can be adjusted...Where is the idle speed adjustment? is that the bypass screw on the throttle body itself?
Thanks. _________________ 1981 924 NA (Restoring mode)

Yes, a light will be heplful.
If it ran well before your hoses were changed , make sure they are hooked up correctly first before you move the distributor.
If they are:
Do your timing, check your idle, check your timing, check your idle. _________________ 1978 924 95 mile daily driver.
