okay, since im still waiting on parts for the 931, and have the exhaust off, and a full head gasket set..im wondering if i shouldnt go ahead and just pull the head off and have it gone through..valve seals replaces, basic refurb..

i only hesitate due to the potential cost, fundage is becoming an issue, and the old "if it aint broke, dont fix it" addage..but then again, with 133k , it may actually need fixin... I also worry that a rebuilt head may throw my piston rings off kilter, and i simply cant manage to rebuild the lower end at this time, unless some one has found a steller deal on quality rings and main bearings somewhere....

and as i said above, i have all the needed gaskets to put it back..and im leaning towards yanking the head off while im already in there..

im thinking a shop will charge me $250 to $300 to refurb the head, does this sound accurate? should that include all the necessary parts? its been along time since ive had this done, and even then i got bargain prices because i "knew people" in the business at the time..

i could use some advise on this..

I would suggest you pull the head, replace seals, check for valve guide wear, replace them if necessary, and reseat the valves. This is the work you can do it yourself and not paying 200-300$ for it. Only thing that requires taking the head to shop, is machining the heads surface.
How much is a bargain for main bearings? In our local shop the Kolbenschmidt's set of mains costs ~70$.
