Any information on the wipers would be appreciated.
High speed appears to be the same speed as low speed.
The intermittent setting does not pause and runs at the same speed as the other two settings.
The blades do not return to off. the wipers will stop when the switch is off but do not 'park'.
I have a feeling the PO has played with the wiring.
This doesn't surprise me as I have found a lot of dodgy repairs. _________________ Porsche 924 1984 (UK import) NA

Ozzie - Your symptoms are the same as what I get if I remove the wiper relay, so I'd have to say either your relay is missing or it's gone bad. _________________ "..it's made in Germany. You know the Germans always make good stuff."

The wiper switch should have four positions.
#1 intermittent (all the way down)
#2 OFF
#3 Slow Speed
#4 High Speed
If the wipers do not park when the switch is moved to the "Off" position, most probably the intermittent wiper relay is either Bad or Missing.
If the intermittent wiper relay is missing (or possibly defective) then the wipers only wipe at one speed, no matter which position the switch is moved to (#3 or #4). |

Thanks.
First I'll remove the swith and clean up the contacts.
(Sometimes I get no response from the switch)
I'm replacing the steering wheel this week.
Second I'll remove the motor and check the wiring. I have found inline crimps on the wiring loom near the motor.
A grease of the linkages probably wont go astray.
Third - replace relay.
I have looked around for a relay and get blank looks from salesmen here.
I will probably have to import one. _________________ Porsche 924 1984 (UK import) NA

a fellow board member should have 1 kicking around that they can sell, or you can take yours out and take it to a local electrical shop and see if they can fix it at a resonable rate. _________________ 3 928s, |

Mine must be really messed up then....
four up positions...
off, off, slow, fast.
pull forward to engage the sprayer and it wipes three times and parks.
I solved my problem for my sprayers not working though...
after replacing all the hosing with new lines they still did not work, turns out it was the plastic one way valves. Blowing as hard as I can into them I could get one to pop open and closed.
Imaging both failing at the same time!!
When bypassed the output from the nozzle is strong.
Has anyone run these without the valves and just used a tee fitting to direct the water?? Or does the water drain back to the tank.
One thing to note... the fitting are all 4mm, although you can get 3mm hose onto them. I used boiling water to expand the hose and jammed a chopstick in the end to flange it out a little. Probable save a lot of angst just using 4mm hose though.

Not sure if it is different in US of A but in my car the wiper is on the right of the steering column.
Up = off
down 1 = slow
down 2 = slow
down 3 = slow
The only intermittent thing is that they sometimes work on 2 or 3 but not always.
Pull the lever towards you and I hear a relay but nothing happens. _________________ Porsche 924 1984 (UK import) NA

Just go to autobarn, there about 8$.
As for hearing the relay and not getting anything moving, that really does sound like a wiring issue.

Looks like a wiring/motor problem as there is no connection from the motor on the cam switch to make the wipers 'park'.
The relay looks ok and things went worse when I removed it.
I'll pull the motor out and give it the once over. _________________ Porsche 924 1984 (UK import) NA

If it's anything like the rear wiper, then it could be one of the brushes has corroded on the gears voltage supply contacts.

Not sure at this stage but the PO may have had trouble with the switch. I have found wiring changes in the column and there are 4 inline crimps on the motor wiring where work has been done, maybe incorrectly.
Either would give me the trouble I am having.
4 days this weekend to find the cause/s and determine course of action.
As well as a steering wheel change comliments of TJ, Crank and Cam seals, rear flange seals, and distributor replacement, Rear spkr instal, visors replacement, odometer repair and dash light replacement, High beam will not dip to low beam, RH indicator is loose.
Just a few hours heh?.
Nothing compared to what I already have done this month. _________________ Porsche 924 1984 (UK import) NA

In Oz I have the wiper on the upper RH side of the steering column.
Is this the same in the USA? _________________ Porsche 924 1984 (UK import) NA
