|

Ok, I think I will replace my main and connrod brgs to try and improve my oil pressure if it can def be done without removing the engine. It has been a while since I had the pan off, so I can't be sure if it can be done. Has anyone else done this with the engine still in the car? Are there anythings in particular I should be careful about when I do this job?

Yes, you can replace the bearings with the engine in the car.
I suggest that you check with the people you would be getting the replacement bearings from for availability of the different sizes, before you tear the the engine down.
The reason being that you should not order the bearings until you check the size of the journals, to make sure that you get the right size. You don't want to find out the the store you would be getting the bearings from cannot get the correct size, after you already have the engine torn down. |

Over the last couple yrs Ive been able to remove the pistons from the motor whilst its still in the car... Now correct me If Im wrong I think thats as a far as you can go as it would be pretty tough to get that crank out
and back in agin, If you made a cradle that gripped 2 of the journals
you could place it on a jack and raise it up into place I guess.. just seems tougher than snot to get the crank down and back up into place. _________________ 1979 porsche 924 Na

Well if your replacing the crank bearing you are going to have to removed the flywheel, best to remove the engine from the car, which can be done from the bottom, if you don't have a hoist. . Becareful to support the engine when lowering. You don't want it to fall from the jack. , Good Luck _________________ Life is to short to be looking for something? |

Best is right though the book says by moving the tranny back the flywheel can be removed with the engine in the car, top of page 30. So what are you gonna do. _________________ 1979 porsche 924 Na
