Ok guys new to this, just got an 87 924s! I am going to do the GT conversion, and am looking to add some after market wheels, since the old phone dial will look much to small..
1. What are the stock rim offsets?
2. Are the 924s and 944 wheel bolt patters the same?
3. What would be the widest Rim I could go with after the flares are
added to body, without rubbing the fender?
Sorry if this sounds like laymans term's like I said I just got it, and don't know to much about Porsche (YET!)

Early 7 and 8 Fuchs fit my GT flares. You are looking at min $1000 to do the conversion. Then you will want to paint the car.
Fuchs maybe min 400
flares 300
front fenders 200
glue 100
Are you going to do it then it is free labor
Someone to cut yes, cut the rear quarters and glue the flares and weld seams maybe 500
Front nose 200 used with the 944 fenders above
Paint 400 and add the cost of someone doing the spray or if you are doing it then it is free.
Still want to do it? $2000 laying around that easily. Get the car in shape and then think about the conversion.

I am with Vince, get the car into good mechanical condition, and learn something about it, BEFORE you start making plans to change it.
Odds are, your new car is already overdue for the CRITICAL :front of engine service". This service must be done every 30K miles or 3 years, whichever coes first. Without the service, there is a very good chance that the valves are going to hit the pistons and cause massive exoensive damage to the engine (or even total the engine).
The service includes: (timing and balance shaft replacement, water pump, front of engine oil seals, and replacement of the belt rollers and pulleys that run on ball bearings). This is probably going to cost you between $1500-$2000. There are special tools required (cost of the Genuine tools is between $600-$700) that are only used on watercooled Porsche 944 and 928 type engines, so you can't take the car to the local neighbor hack, it's gotta be an experienced Porsche 944/924S/951 mechanic.
If you got any service documentation, look for positive proof that the service has been done. A phone call and vague discussion with the PO (previous owner) is not good enough to risk your engine. If there is no documented proof that the service is done, and that you are inside of the 30K and 3 years. Do not drive the car or start the engine any more except to drive the car to the mechanic to get the service done. |

First of all, welcome to the fold!! the guys arent really as grumpy as they sound (usually im the grumpy one!) , so dont get discouraged..theyre just letting you know the truly important stuff needs to be done/checked/repaired first, because these cars can be extremely expensive to fix when something goes wrong..i think i paid almost 5k for a replacement engine in my 87 when one of the balance shafts seized up and took the rest along with it..cars long gone, im still paying that bill off.. so take their advice to heart...thier not trying to burst your bubble, just offering sound advice so you dont end up with a beautifull car that cant go..
I think a "924SGTC " is a great idea! the late model power of a 944 in a very unique body makes for a nice combination imho.I always wondered why they didnt offer that variation when they brought the 924 back for those couple of years,i the think the carerra body style is so much nicer than a "normal" 944 .
anyhow, i think there are now four of us in Florida alone either in the process, or collecting parts to begin carerra conversions..in a year or so well all have to get together for a meet.. and in the mean time we can compare notes if needed..... _________________ Eric

You can run 15 or 16 inch 7s in the front and 8s in the rear. With the 16x8 in the rear, you will have to put in a little bit of camber and/or sand down the inner lip of the wheel flares so you have no rubbbing issues. The offset for these is 23.3mm. These Fuchs were available on the early 944 and also the 70s 911 I believe.
I had an 88 924S I converted over to the GT and these worked for me. I had the 16 inch wheels mounted with street tires and the 15s with my track tires. These wheels can be somewhat difficult to track down at a "reasonable" price but they are out there. _________________ Chuck Russo
