Hi Guys, I was wondering if any one out their can tell me where the Purge Valve gets connected to as mine has been disconnected?

This Valve has three connections to it. 1. to the Charcoal canister, 2. To the Fuel Distributor and 3. I would gess to a vacuum line some where.

Any help would be great.

Thanks Chris

PS: how do you inseat a picture into this forum?

I'd have to look later for exactly where it goes, but the small control line goes to a manifold vacuum source. It's shown on pgs. 102-103 in the (US) Haynes.

For the pic posting, upload the pic to some webspace, then enter "" like this -
""
(, but without the quotes)
Here's the result with it entered correctly -

You can right-click somewhere on the post and click "view source" (in MS IE) to see the html code.
Webspace might be included with your ISP subscription or you could use something like Yahoo/Geocities.

Ok lets see now, the following is what I can work out from the Haynes man:

10 comes from the air cleaner to the Charcoal Can. (My car has no pipe here)
15 is the Vac from after the throtle body? (MIA)
13 is the ECC control Valve (Purge Vavle?) which has a "T" junction which goes to the Charcoal can and fuel tank. But the other connection goes where? it's only connection not numbered..!@$%^ dam it, it looks like on the picture it's going to the inlet manifold or is that the line that goes to the fuel distributor?

Oh dear I think I've gone cross eyed try'in to work this one out....

Help

#15 is the small control line to the throttle body - it eventually attaches to the side and directly adjacent to the pivot point of the throttle valve (aka butterfly valve, whatever..), but midway along, before it gets there, it goes to what's apparently a small water temperature controlled valve that's located just to the left and below the ignition coil (as viewed from the front-top of the engine).
13 is the purge valve. 14's a check valve that allows flow only from tank to char can (right-to-left).
That other line off the top of #13 is one of the larger lines. It attaches to the bottom of the air metering unit (aka fuel distributor).

That line goes to the rear-lower-right side connection (as viewed from the front) on the air cleaner box. The rear-upper-right side connection there should come from the air-oil seperator.

With a little luck, you have a sticker like this - ?

According to my notes here - the purge valve opens allowing stored fuel fumes to flow from charcoal canister to intake (via that connection at the bottom of the air metering unit) when the engine's warm and at part throttle. It's closed (allowing flow only from tank to charcoal canister when pressure is enough to open check valve #14) when engine is either shut off, cold, idling, or at full throttle.

Here's the final destination of that small control line #15 -

It's just slightly above and to the left of center (the connection that's angled down 45* and to the left).

OK Cool thanks guys, I'll check this all out and see what I find. But I had a quick look at the Carcoal Can and mine only has two connections on it ??? 1st to the "T" junction and Purge Valve and 2nd to the open air.

I'm on a plane now and wont get a look until the weekend.

Once again thanks for you input.
