|
|
Eurorace is back in business guys. They are based in Hawthorne, California and are back to producing the "Big Valve Head" for our 924's.
This modified head is completely re-machined and includes the following:
44mm Stainless Steel Intake Valves
35mm Stainless Steel Exhaust Valves
Port and Polish
Special Racing Guides
RaceSport Valve Springs and Retainers
I have been in contact with them and have inquired about doing a group buy with members of our forum. They returned my phone call immediately and have offered us the following pricing based on exchange...
1-5 heads......................................................$900 ea.
6-10 heads....................................................$850 ea.
11 or more....................................................$800 ea.
If we wanted to get cams at the same time they would be able to custom make the valves to the proper lenghts so that there would be no need for lash caps. They do not weld their cams like Webcam, they regrind your stock cam to the proer profile, and use lash caps. But this would not be the case if you were to have them install your cam into the new head.
Cam profiles are as follows:
Stage I.......233x470
Stage II......250x430
Stage III.....Same as Carrera GT (he did not have the numbers handy)
Cams for the group would be priced at $150 ea. regardless of profile.
So the number of participants will influence the price but regardless this is the best thing I have seen since, well ever.
Increases flow and rev capabilities by up to 40% over stock.
Who's interested?

Can you inquire into 931 heads too? And turn-around times?
Looks like you guys really found a winner for the na's!

They do indeed perform the same work for the 931's. This has been verified already.
I should have mentioned that in the post.
I can ask about turn around time. _________________ MJ

Mark,
Keep me up to date, I am in for a group buy, I have a spare head here I just need to pull it off the motor. I am also interested in turnaround times, not that I am in a rush, the car is put away for the winter, but I'd don't want things to get lost under a long timeline. I'd also like to know what kind of approach we are taking. I'm assuming since it is in North America, everyone will ship separately but quote "924 group buy"? But then how will EuroRace know what discount to apply since the total number of heads will not be known? Hmmm, things to sort out. Anyway, this seems very positive, and it is great that you got such a quick response.

I am thinking we could tag the heads prior to shipping them.
Give Eurorace a list on names to expect heads from.
I am also thinking that we should set a date, say in 30-60 days as to when we are going to say OK this is it, we are shipping now, and everyone ship however they feel comfortable.
I'm leaning more towards the 30 day thing myself, but we can sort that stuff out as we go. _________________ MJ

What about piston bore size, wouldn't this create hot spots with the stock bore.
Also are you going to need to have bigger reliefs cut out of the top of the pistons, or does this just make an interferance design if you don't cut reliefs.
It might be worth organising a one off test sampler before commiting to a group buy. I don't doubt Euroraces quality, but it might be worth investigate this.
My head was done the same way (as in having the valve lengthened. They used stallite to add length to the valves and the ground them back to length. Looked great.
You might also ask them if the line bore the cam bearing and what they do for worn lifters. Do they also check the brinnel hardness of the head.??
This one got me when i had my head done, ask them what's the minimum they figure they will go down to before rejecting the head.

If I can manage to get more money I might be interested.
Can not commit at this time though. Even though I sold the 1980 I still am quite short on cash.
Anyone need parts?

okay, i was plannig on having my head rebuilt anyhow, so this might be an option for my 931.. but can someone explain to me the true benefits? i know breathing better is good.. but the effect of porting seem to be based purly on opinion from what ive read, i need some factual data before i start selling blood to pay for one of these... in plain english though..you can throw a graph at me but id rather just know the bottom line, for my application(931)..more ponies? better response? more low end? more mid or high end power? hp increase?? help...... _________________ Eric

You can see some of the effects of this head if you go to my site and look under 924 Performance tricks.
www.geocities.com/eturbo924
Unfortunately it does not just show performance gain with just the head but it does show flow numbers.
Heavy Breather is the article.

OK here is my question do they still make the stroker kit?
I know they used to do a 2.4 I think it was.
2.4 + big valve heads even better if it was a 931.
I am very interested in the stroker kit or at least looking into it, can someone tell me if the still offer it?
A price would be nice and could we it be included with the group by?
Although I would want to keep the compression down, forged pistions, GTI rods, add boost.... even with carbs... yea buddy!! |

According to them the stroker kit is not something they have on the shelf but if there was interest in it they have all the tooling and could produce them again. I did not talk pricing and can do so the next time I talk to them or whoever wants to call and ask whatever questions they have.
I will not be trying to convey all the information back and forth for this deal that way I am not caught in the middle. I just made initial contact and since a phone call is a phone call feel free. _________________ MJ

Drop the phone number and I will give them a call and look into the stroker.
I am looking at it from a cost perspective:
Stroker 931 setup vs. Engine swap...
Like everyone else I want more power... |

I would also be sincerely interested in a 931 head but before I drop the cash i'd like to see what can be done to get the stroker kit or at least some of those flat top pistons like Racing used.
C'mon one of you has to be rich,do the prototype and help us regular guys out....I'm thinkin' bored over, forged flattops, custom made high flow stellite exhaust manifold,A T3 turbo with ceramic bearings,o-ringed big valve head, intercooler with sprayer, big bore throttle body with a spacer and auxiliary fuel injector, knife edged crank with scraper,oh and just to be cheeky, thro in a 50 shot of NOS,thanks.
But seriously i'm interested. _________________ 1979 Euro 931, Olive
