Hello,

Does anyone know if the drivers seat sinking on a 924,especially on the side near the adjuster: is this a common fault. I understand the cars 22 year old. I recently found a old 924 in the local scrap yard, absolutely gutted, athough the seat was rock solid, both of them, the seat in mine feels very fragile, and i feel it may be beginning to protrude through the floorplan !! Could this be solved with a little welding ? I,m not sure if the owner before me (or any owner in its history for that matter) was over weight, but everytime i get in the seat i'm worried it may give way,and belive me i'm skinny,10 stone wet through !!

Regards Lee H.

No, not common, don't think I've ever heard of that problem... I'd be concerned about the condition of the floorboard, for sure... Check that first and determine if the floor needs to be patched or if you just have internal mechanical bits that need repair or replacement...

4 10mm bolts to remove seat. Put seat all the way forward to remove rear bolts, all the way rear to remove fronts. Easy to remove. Don't forget to disco seatbelt sensor wire if you have one. Make sure door will open all the way 'cause you'll need to room to remove the seat. Do that and check out what's going on. The front LH side often pulls out so you might be feeling that...

Front bolts fasten through a crossmember so it is doubtful that there is a problem with that "sinking".

Dibbs on any change you find

Look under the seats and you will find that they have rotted. Ask 924Guy how I know.

We welded the floors for him.

How tall are you, Lee?

There is a potential problem for people who have the seat set back quite far. The weight of the driver is not very well supported and this can lead to metal fatigue and failure of the floor panel under the seat. This happened on a colleague's 924.

Remove the seat and have a good look underneath, especially at the rear mounting. Any cracks in the metal work can readily be welded.

had the two front floor mounting points of the driver seat welded up and redrilled just last week. The front end of the seat had com e completely loose over the years. scary thought though...all those miles sitting on just 2 bolts.
I recommend everyone checks them out if there is any play in the seats.

I had the same problem. Turned out to be metal fatigue, no rust anywhere. As was suggested earlier, I believe it had to do with the seat being adjusted back to accomodate my seating position.

my floors didnt rust through initially, they tore from fatigue (the guy i bought it from was 300lbs + ) , they rusted later due to the exposed metal..id forgotten all about that until Vince mentioned it...
