Check youve not switched the main and ignition supplies to the stereo. Most of the looms that come with stereos I've had include an easy to swap pair of wires for these two feeds.

Assuming it is the same problem as mine, it's not the act of removing the wire that allows it to start, but the removing of the spark plug.

Therefore my conclusion was it was to do with either fuel ...

Had the same problem with mine. Not limited to plug #1 either. Once started on three, and with the plug then replaced, started instantly every time.

Sounds possibly similar to mine. That turned out to be the wire from the hall sensor in the dizzy to the gate of the transistor.

The wire had broken about 15mm from the crimp, so easy to shorten ...

It seems to be the same with either of the front plugs, I've not tried with the harder to reach ones at the back. Will try unplugging the wur see what that does.
