she now runs fine and pulls great thanks to a local Porsche specialist who diagnosed a wrong fuel pressure...although i dont know how because i did not mess up with it.

it had a single 4 blade fan (early rype)
it can be replaced directly (bolt on, no changes)with the 6 blade type from vw golf , vw jetta , and other vw ...

Thanks for the tip! but i must remember you that the car started and performed properly before the head gasket repair and i did not mess up with the mixture screw...so it shouldnt be out of tune i gue ...

so i assembled everithing and the engine harness was in quite bad shape, the plug for the thrmo time switch was missing... i rewired everithing ...

exactly same thing happened to me...i removed the drum and there was a loose washer inside...i dont know where it came from...i reinstalled the drum and the noise never came back

in the process of renewing the wiring i found out that the fuel pump is not supposed to work right since you turn the key to the on position..mine does work immediately and i always thougt it was norm ...
