The resistor solved the engine run-on problem. I never had an issue with the fuel pump so can't really comment. Sorry.

Just a final clarification, did this ballast resistor also solve the fuel pump no-go problem or was it only the engine run-on problem?

I fixed it with the ballast resistor. Wired it up as-per the MSD doco and it worked a treat.
