The Alpines in my car fit fine with no modifications. They came with some circular spacers though... very thin ones but they weren't needed. Blaupunkt also supposedly has some that fit.

but anyways, my 924S doesn't have the fuel economy gauge. I've only seen them on the 85.5+ 944 cars.

It's an option... seen one ...

In all fairness I'll say that the Krikit tool gave me great results for setting the belt tension (cue the flame war).

Have you tried the sticker on the passenger side door? Mine has one there with just the VIN and a bar code on the rail just below the striker plate, passenger side door/frame.
