It was probably a solid sheet of metal used to block out the back window... it was turned into mesh by Super termites who feast on random bits of metal causing random holes or that annoying space that ...

Well it looks like there was some sort of bracket on the outside
Maybe its a piece of sheet metal on the rubber part that the bolt bolts into?

I am about to tackle this problem on my 77 924
and I was wondering if anyone had pictures of the fix that they did so I could have some reference points on how to make mine work.
