Am I the only one who finds it remarkable that Porsche would have used sodium valve stems and NOT list same in the tech specs or Turbo repair volume?

John's oversight was to do the experiment at room temp. Valves must be heated for sodium core to liquefy.

I'll readily concede that point. However, I saw no discontinuity in the cross-section.

Gohim and group have advised well. I've probably 'tracked' a 'stock' 924 with the original rear disks harder than anyone; so my $.02.

The front wheel bearings are very highly loaded plus the origin ...

I think you should ask the man/pro to do a 'standard' bench mark (baseline) and to explain to (you) what that is. He does this for a living. He should be able to tell you (us) what should be required ...
